The Analytical Genomics Core Facility at Lake Nona offers state-of-the-art genomics services, such as Next Generation DNA Sequencing and DNA microarrays technologies.

We have already established these cutting-edge genomics technology platforms at Lake Nona that complement related technologies in San Diego, California. These combined resources provide access to our scientists, regardless of location, to some of the most advanced infrastructure for genomics research in the nation.


Illumina Next Generation Sequencing
The HiSeq 2500 and MiSeq sequencing machines utilize Illumina’s cutting edge SBS chemistry and produce industry leading quality data. Both sequencers offer a vast array of sequencing services. The HiSeq 2500 offers a High Output mode for larger projects and a Rapid Run mode for mid-range sequencing projects. Both modes are capable of generating variable read lengths with single and paired end runs. The high output mode can sequence read lengths up to 2x125bp while producing up to 1 Tb per run. The Rapid Run mode can sequence up to 2x250bp producing up to 300 Gb in about 40 hours. The MiSeq is great for mid-range to smaller projects and offers a quick turnaround time. The MiSeq can produce read lengths up to 2x300bp and generate sequencing reads up to 15Gb per run. With onboard analysis, sequencing custom or pre-designed amplicon panels are ideal for the MiSeq. Both the HiSeq and MiSeq use a Q30 (99.9% base call accuracy) baseline for data quality.

Microarray Platforms

The Genomics Core at Lake Nona is equipped with all necessary components for a successful microarray experiment. The facility supports research by providing RNA and DNA analysis services from experimental design, sample preparation to basic data analysis. Using optimized standard operating procedures, Genomics core provides microarray services using 3 major platforms that primarily represent latest gene expression technologies, Genotyping, non-coding expression and miRNA profiling services.
